Minimum Qualifications at Time of Application Submission
Firefighter
Firefighter/EMT: $17.43/hour
Firefighter/Paramedic $19.61/hour
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING
All certificates, licenses, and/or registrations must be current at the time of application. Copies of relevant documents demonstrating that the candidate has met minimum requirements must be attached to the application.
An eligibility list will be established.
- High School diploma or GED
- Valid Drivers License
- Healthcare Provider Level CPR Certificate
- Arizona State EMT or Paramedic Certification OR current NREMT certification for EMT or Paramedic. Candidate must obtain AZ State certification prior to shift work assignment.
- CPAT Certificate
PREFERRED
- State of Arizona Firefighter I and II Certification or equivalent IFSAC Accredited Firefighter I & II
- Wildland Firefighter Type II*Red Card qualifications minimum HazMat 24-hour Operations*
ADDITIONAL CREDIT POINTS
A maximum of five (5.0) points may be accumulated with additional credit.
The Applicant must attach documentation for each credit being claimed.
Military Experience 2.0

- Two points will be awarded to anyone with a discharge under honorable conditions from any United States recognized military service branch.
Medical Certification 2.0

- Two points will be awarded for Arizona medical certification as a paramedic.
Fire Science Credits 0.1

- Credit of 0.1 point will be awarded for three credit hours received with a minimum grade of “C.” A maximum of one 1.0 point will be awarded for fire science credits, if not receiving college degree credit.
College Degree

- Associate’s 2.0
- Bachelor’s 4.0
- All college-level credits must be from an accredited educational institution. Credit will only be allowed for one degree. Two points will be awarded for an Associate’s Degree, four points will be awarded for a Bachelor’s Degree.
Other Certifications 0.1
0.1 point will be awarded for each of the following certifications :

- TRT
- Hazardous Materials Technician
- Wildland Firefighter Type 1

The selection process begins now with the application and following instructions. Copies of relevant documents demonstrating that the candidate has met minimum requirements must be attached to the application. Candidates who are requesting extra credit points for military service, special certifications, diplomas, specialized training, or college transcripts, as detailed in the job announcement must provide copies of documentation of completion with the application. Credit will not be given if documentation is not provided with the application.
Applicants who meet the minimum requirements on their application will be notified via email that their application has been accepted, and they will be invited to attend a written assessment.
If successful, a contingent job offer is made and the following must be passed: background investigation, drug testing, physical, and psychological evaluations.
